These falls in the upper Provo River art located in the high Uinta mountains, 80 miles east of Provo Utah. The Provo river runs from the west end of the Uinta mountains near Bald Mountain to Provo Utah where is empties into Utah Lake. Since Utah lake empties into the Great Salt lake to the north, the waters of this river never reach the ocean. This is high alpine country. The river starts from Bald Mountain at an altitude above 11,000 feet. These falls are at about 10,000 feet.
As with all the photographs in this section, the falls were shot with a neutral density filter to slow the shutter speed. The eddy currents in the pool at the base of the falls are especially attractive to me.
What a great shot, it really captures the beauty of Utah and the Upper Provo River. I have a home near Park City and we have access to the Upper Provo River in our community- it has such a calming effect on me. Even if people are fly sighing on the river I can just relax and listen to the water. Your image reminds me of that relaxing feeling.
ReplyDeleteThe Upper Provo River Falls never looked so good! I like the way the white water spreads out and relaxes for a moment into the shallow pool before it's once again whisked down the mountain.
